01 What this site does
Type up to 15 letters and get every word you can build from them — not a selection, not the top ten. Results are grouped longest first and scored, so the strongest play is the first thing you read. There is no account, no limit on how often you use it, and no step between typing and the answer.
02 How it works
The whole thing runs in your browser. The word list is downloaded once, the first time you use the tool, and after that every query is answered on your own device in a few thousandths of a second.
That has a consequence worth stating plainly: the letters you type never reach us. There is no server to send them to.
03 How the results are worked out
Two things decide what you see. Which words appear: every entry in the word list whose letters are contained in the ones you typed — all of them, counted properly, so a word needing two Ts will not appear unless you have two. A blank tile covers one missing letter each.
What order they come in: longest first, because length is usually the scarce thing. Within a length, highest score first, then alphabetically so the list is stable rather than shuffling between visits.
Scores are the standard English letter values added up — A, E, I, L, N, O, R, S, T and U are worth 1, through to Q and Z at 10. A letter supplied by a blank scores nothing. Board bonuses are not included, because we do not know your board; the number ranks your options, it is not a final score.
None of this runs on a server. The arithmetic happens on your device, which is why it is instant and why we never see what you typed.
04 Where the words come from
Words come from ENABLE, the Enhanced North American Benchmark Lexicon — a public-domain English word list. We use 168,551 entries, two to 15 letters, normalized to lowercase letters only.
We chose a public-domain list on purpose. The official tournament lists for the well-known word games are copyrighted, and we would rather tell you exactly which list you are searching than imply an endorsement we do not have.
05 Who runs it
word-unscramble.com is an independent site, built and maintained by one person. It is not affiliated with, endorsed by or connected to any word game, puzzle publisher or their trademarks, and nothing here claims to tell you what is legal in a particular game — only what is in the word list we name above.
Email hello@word-unscramble.com with corrections, words that should be in the list, words that should not, or anything that simply looks wrong. Corrections to the word list get read first, and the dictionary version in the footer of this page tells you which list you are looking at.
